Holiday parties, we've all been there, done that - and LOVE THEM! They are a wonderful way to connect with family, friends and acquaintances over the holiday season. But ANOTHER white elephant gift exchange? Or another ugly christmas sweater contest? I think we can all agree that we can get a little more creative, are we right?
This post is going to be for all you wine lovers out there. Red, White, Bubbles... anyone? So how about a wine themed holiday party? Yes please! We call ours "Snobby Wine Night" There are many creative ways to approach this party idea, but we’ll fill you in on how we host our's.
This post is going to be for all you wine lovers out there. Red, White, Bubbles... anyone? So how about a wine themed holiday party? Yes please! We call ours "Snobby Wine Night" There are many creative ways to approach this party idea, but we’ll fill you in on how we host our's.
The party is always centered around the holidays. The house is decorated and festive, so why not have guests in to enjoy? Each couple is invited to bring a $20 bottle of wine to the party, this could be a favorite of theirs or even something they’ve never tried before. Since this is a blind tasting the bottle should be wrapped up upon arrival so the other guests do not see what they have brought. The host will then collect the bottles and place them out of viewing. The guests are then handed cards to take notes on each wine. At the start of each tasting the pourer will come up with fun and random names for each bottle, for example, our first bottle is Rocky Balboa! Your guests will then take notes on each one.
EXAMPLE: 1. Rocky Balboa - smokey red with a peppery finish - LOVE IT.

The notes will help with the MANY tastings and the creative names will also help everyone remember. The host/wine pourer will also tell a little about each bottle - region, grape, etc. Guests may be tasting the wine they’ve brought and don't even know! Everyone will continue tasting through each bottle and in the end rank each one. The host will tally the votes and the bottle that receives the highest overall ranking is then revealed! The guest that provided that bottle wins a host provided bottle to take home to enjoy. How fun...and tasty is that?! You get to mingle with your friends, family, and neighbors, drink great wine and figure out what bottles you may want to scout out on your next trip to your local wine store.
A fun twist on our Snobby Wine Night is to choose a specific region and ask all guests to provide a bottle from that region. To continue on that line of thought...have everyone bring a snacking item from that region as well! Nothing like bringing a little Spain or Italy to your home during the holidays!
Happy sipping friends!
